Pedestrian struck, killed on U.S. 113

DSP logoMILLSBORO, DELAWARE (7/25/2015) A pedestrian was struck and killed by a car north of Millsboro early today, Delaware State Police said.

The accident was reported at 1:37 a.m. in the southbound lanes of DuPont Boulevard (U.S. 113) about a third of a mile north of Delaware Avenue.

The man killed was identified as Cortez L. Solomon, 50, of Florida.

Police said he stepped into the path of a 2014 Kia Optima driven by Carol A. Farrell, 68, of Millsboro, in the right lane.

The front right of the car struck Solomon and he was thrown into the roadway and shoulder.

Farrell stopped at the scene.

Solomon was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said alcohol use by Solomon is being considered as a factor in the crash.

Neither Farrell nor a male passenger were injured. Both were wearing seat belts, police said.
