SEAFORD, DELAWARE (11/25/2015) A Maryland man was charged Tuesday in a hit-and-run bicycle accident that critically injured a teenager west of Seaford last month, Delaware State Police said.

Justin J. Trice, 26 of Easton, Maryland, turned himself in to troopers and was charged with leaving the scene of a collision resulting in injury, inattentive driving causing serious physical injury and failure to report a collision resulting in injury. He was released on his own recognizance.

The accident happened about 7 p.m. Oct. 15 when Melleca D. Butler Jr., 17 of Seaford, was southbound on Woodpecker Road approaching Old Carriage Road. He was ejected into a nearby field, where he was found by a passing motorist who noticed a bicycle wheel and shoe in the roadway.

Butler was flown to Christiana Hospital in Stanton in critical condition.

Police said Tuesday that Butler is still hospitalized, but his condition has been upgraded to stable.
