WBOC starts FM radio station

SALISBURY, MARYLAND (11/25/2015) The company that operates television station WBOC now has an FM radio station.

WBOC-FM is on 102.5 with a 50,000-watt signal that can be heard in lower Delaware.

The station is broadcasting commercial-free Christmas music while it develops its regular format for the station.

Draper Holdings, which also owns WBOC-TV, FOX21, WBOC Classics, WBOC.com and Loblolly LLC, purchased the FM station from Marantha Broadcasting, which operated a Christian station as WOLC that went off the air earlier this year.

“WBOC first launched as a radio station 75 years ago,” said Craig Jahelka, vice president & general manager. “What better way for us to come full circle than to launch WBOC-FM with the best selection of Christmas music available. And we have some exciting things planned for the future, including giving away $50,000 to our listeners.”

Jahelka said WBOC-FM is currently hiring staff and updating equipment. Veteran broadcaster Joe Edwards is the WBOC-FM operations manager.

“We’re assembling a dynamic morning team, and hiring the best talent to ensure WBOC-FM will be a local station, heavily involved in our community featuring news and weather from the WBOC-TV News team,” said Edwards.
