Teen critically injured in hit-run bicycle crash

UPDATED STORY: Police locate pickup driver in bicycle hit-and-run

SEAFORD, DELAWARE (10/16/2015) A 17-year-old was critically injured Thursday when his bicycle was struck by a vehicle west of Seaford, the Delaware State Police said this morning.

The accident happened about 7 p.m. on Woodpecker Road.

Police said Melleca D. Butler Jr., of Seaford, was southbound approaching Old Carriage Road when he was struck from behind by an unknown vehicle, possibly a General Motors SUV, that fled.

Butler was ejected from the bike and landed on the ground in a cornfield west of the roadway.

A passerby saw a bicycle tire and shoe in the road and saw Butler when he stopped to check the area.

Butler was flown to Christiana Hospital in Stanton by state police helicopter.
