UPDATED STORY: Police release name of man killed

CLAYMONT, DELAWARE (10/2/2015) A man was killed early today in a single-vehicle crash in Claymont, the Delaware State Police said.

The accident happened shortly after midnight as the man was exiting the northbound Interstate 495 off-ramp onto Philadelphia Pike (U.S. 13) at high speed, police said.

The left-hand tires of the 2015 Lincoln MKS struck the ramp curb and the car traveled across the northbound lanes of the Pike and struck the raised center concrete median.

The car continued across the southbound lanes before hitting another curb, DelDOT sign and large metal traffic light support pole. The Lincoln then overturned onto its roof and came to rest at Alcott Avenue.

The victim, who has not been identified, was ejected from the car. Police said he was not wearing a seat belt.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was turned over the the Delaware Division of Forensic Science to determine his identity.

Police said they are still investigating the crash.

Philadelphia Pike was closed for four hours between Naamans Road and I-495 as police investigated.
