Man critically injured in scooter crash

LONG NECK, DELAWARE (9/30/2015) A 35-year-old Millsboro man was in critical condition after crashing a scooter east of Long Neck, the Delaware State Police said today.

The accident was reported at 5:24 p.m. Tuesday on Route 24 (John J. Williams Highway) near Eagle Lane.

Kevin P. Phillips of Millsboro was driving a 2015 Bantam Bashan Sport 50 scooter westbound on the shoulder, police said, when the scooter ran over some tree branches. Phillips lost control on the wet roadway and the scooter slid on its side before stopping in grass on the north side of the road.

Phillips, who police said was not wearing a helmet, was taken by ambulance to Beebe Healthcare’s hospital in Lewes.

Traffic on Route 24 was affected about 2½ hours as police investigated.
