WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (9/28/2015) A 23-year-old man shot in Wilmington on Sunday is in critical condition at Christiana Hospita in Stanton, city police reported this morning.

The shooting happened about 4:30 p.m. in the 600 block of N. Jefferson St. and left the man with wounds in his upper torso and lower extremity areas, according to a statement from Police Chief Bobby Cummings.

A large crowd threw rocks and bottles at police and medical responders, striking several officers but none required hospitalization.

“As officers worked to maintain the shooting scene the crowd grew and became increasingly hostile. Assistance was requested from the Delaware State Police and the New Castle County police departments to assist with crowd control efforts,” according to the statement from Cummings’ office.

Police are still investigating the shooting and asked anyone with information to call Detective Ahmard Reddick at 302-576-3649.
