1 shot in Wilmington; crowd throws rocks at cops

UPDATED STORY:  Police say shooting victim in critical condition

 

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (9/27/2015) One person was shot in the chest and a crowd of people tossed rocks and bottles at police who responded, according to reports from the scene. One man who displayed a knife was taken into custody.

The shooting happened about 4:30 p.m. in the 600 block of Jefferson St.

Dozens of police were called in from around New Castle County to quell the crowd, which took about a half hour to disperse. Several officers were reported to have been struck by tossed objects but declined treatment at the scene.

Wilmington Police Chief Bobby Cummings was on the scene.

The shooting victim was taken to a hospital. His condition was not immediately known.

The knife incident and arrest happened in the 500 block of Jefferson.
