62-year-old man killed in motorcycle crash

DSP logoDOVER, DELAWARE (9/2/2015) A 62-year-old Smyrna man was killed Tuesday when his motorcycle collided with a car northwest of Dover, the Delaware State Police reported this morning.

The accident happened about 4:50 p.m. on Kenton Road at Central Church Road.

David A. Hemphill was driving a 2014 Harley-Davidson Road King motorcycle northbound behind two cars approaching the intersection, police said.

The other two vehicles turned east on Central Church Road.

A 2009 Hyundai Elantra, westbound on Central Church Road, pulled out from the stop sign to make a left turn onto Kenton and into the path of the motorcycle, police said.

The motorcycle struck the left front of the Hyundai, ejecting Hemphill onto the roadway.

Hemphill, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken by ambulance to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Hyundai, 55-year-old Michael A. August of Smyrna, was not injured. Police said he was wearing a seat belt.

No charges have been filed and alcohol does not appear to be a factor, police said. The investigation is continuing.

Kenton Road at Central Church Road was closed about three hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
