Homicide sets record in Wilmington

UPDATED STORY: 21-year-old man indicted in murder

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (12/20/2014) The death of a 43-year-old man early today makes this the deadliest year for homicides in Wilmington’s history.

Police say Derrick Caudle of Wilmington died after being shot in the abdomen in the 700 block of Vandever Ave.  about 10:30 p.m. Friday. Officers arrived to find him down on the sidewalk.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken by St. Francis ambulance to Christiana Hospital, where he later died.

Police said they have no suspect information.

The death brings to 28 the homicide toll in the city this year, topping the 27 killed in 2010.
