BRIDGEVILLE, DELAWARE (2/12/2018) Torrential rain may have contributed to a fatal crash east of Bridgeville on Sunday, the Delaware State Police said.

The collision of a pickup truck and a minivan was reported at 3:14 p.m. on Redden Road about .8 mile west of Chaplains Chapel Road.

Police said an eastbound 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pickup crossed into the westbound lane and collided nearly head-on with a 2008 Kia Sedona minivan on a moderate curve.

The driver of the pickup, an 82-year-old Ernest B. McBroom of Bridgeville, was taken by ambulance to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said McBroom wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the Kia, a 66-year-old Georgetown man, as well as a 12-year-old boy and 9-year-old girl riding in the minivan, also were taken to the hospital, where they were treated and released. Police said all were wearing seat belts.

The road was closed in the area about three hours as police investigated and the wreckage was cleared.
