21-year-old woman struck, killed by car on I-95 in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (1/25/2018) A 21-year-old woman was killed early today when she was struck by a car as she was walking on Intestate 95 in Wilmington, the Delaware State Police said.

The fatality happened about 1 a.m. on the southbound side of I-95, south of the Fourth Street off-ramp.

Police said the woman was walking in the right travel lane for unknown reason when she was struck by a 2010 Toyota Prius.

The woman was thrown to the ground, coming to rest on the right shoulder.

The driver of the Prius, a 77-year-old man from Galena, Maryland, brought his car to a stop and remained at the scene.

The woman was taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Her name was withheld by police pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the Prius was not injured.

Southbound I-95 was closed about two hours as police investigated.
