Charges dismissed in shooting of 6-year-old boy

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (6/14/2017) Charges against a man arrested in the shooting of a 6-year-old boy last week have been dismissed, city officials announced late Tuesday, and police are continuing to look for a suspect.

Police had arrested 41-year-old Chelsea Outlaw of Morehouse Drive near New Castle on Thursday and charged him with first-degree attempted murder and related counts.

In a joint news release from Mayor Mike Purzycki and Police Chief Robert Tracy, the officials said the investigation “had uncovered evidence leading to the dismissal of current charges against Chelsea Outlaw.”

Tracy said new leads have been developed with other possible suspects.

The officials said 6-year-old Jashown Banner, who was shot while in a vehicle at the corner of Sixth and Spruce streets on June 6, remains in critical condition at Nemours/A.I. duPont Hospital for Children in Rockland.
