54-year-old man killed in motorcycle crash

SMYRNA, DELAWARE (10/20/2016) A 54-year-old Dover man was killed in a motorcycle crash east of Smyrna on Wednesday, the Delaware State Police said.

The crash happened about 6 p.m. on Smyrna-Leipsic Road west of Big Oak Road.

The man was eastbound entering a moderate left curve when he went off the south side of the road for undetermined reason, struck a ditch and vinyl fence.

He was ejected from the 2012 Triumph bike and was pronounced dead at the scene.

His name was withheld by police pending notification of next of kin.

Police said they didn’t know if he was wearing a helmet.

Troopers are seeking information on a white mid-size passenger car that may have been in the area.

Smyrna-Leipsic Road was closed about 3.5 hours while police investigated and the wreckage was cleared.
