DOVER, DELAWARE (7/3/2016) A 47-year-old man was killed early Saturday when his bicycle was struck by a car as he was making a turn on U.S. 13 (North DuPont Highway), Dover police said.
The crash was reported at 3:42 a.m. at West Denneys Road.
Police said Tobby Ayers was riding the bike in the left northbound turn lane and had a red light when he turned into traffic. He was struck by a southbound 2002 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by a 32-year-old man who was not identified.
“It is believed that Ayers was possibly intoxicated and that alcohol was a contributing factor in this accident,” Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman said. “The driver of the Malibu does not face any charges at this time.”
