DOVER, DELAWARE (3/27/2016) A 23-year-old woman died early today after her motorized bicycle collided with a pickup truck north of Dover, the Delaware State Police said.

The accident happened just after 2 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 13 (North DuPont Highway) and West Denneys Road.

Mildred A. Steele, of Dover, was riding a motorized Huffy bicycle northbound in the left lane on U.S. 13 and was proceeding after the traffic light turned red, police said.

The bike was struck by a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup that was westbound on West Denneys Road, had stopped for a red light and was proceeding after it turned green.

The pickup struck the front of the bike, ejecting Steele onto the roadway at the northwest corner of the intersection, police said.

The pickup, driven by Nicholas J. Stonesifer, 21 of Dover, came to a controlled stop in the parking lot of Blue Hen Collision Express.

Police said Steele was not wearing a helmet or reflective clothing. She was taken by ambulance to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Stonesifer was not injured.

Northbound U.S. 13 was closed in the area about three hours as police investigated.
