Newark police: Home invasion of UD student was drug related

NEWARK, DELAWARE (2/29/2016) Three men are being sought after a drug-related home invasion that targeted a University of Delaware student, Newark police said this morning.

The incident happened about 1:20 a.m. Saturday in the 200 block of E. Main St.

The resident, a 21-year-old UD student, told officers he was home with two friends watching a movie when there was a knock at the door, Cpl. James Spadola said.

“The resident answered the door and was immediately struck in the face by an object, presumably a handgun. Three suspects then entered the residence. Money, identification documents, and drugs were were stolen from the residence, as well as the victims’ cellphones. The suspects were in the house for approximately five minutes and fled out the rear door,” Spadola said.

He said none of the victims required medical treatment.

The three suspects were described as light-skinned black men, about 18-22 years old. They were wearing dark-colored sweat pants, sweat shirts and had their hoods up with bandannas over their faces. All three were armed with black handguns.
