Robber with gun flees after restaurant worker chases with knife

NEW CASTLE, DELAWARE (2/18/2016) A man with a handgun trying to rob the China Inn Restaurant fled empty-handed when a female employee picked up a large knife and chased him out of the business, Delaware State Police said Wednesday.

The robbery attempt happened about 1:55 p.m. Tuesday at 216 New Castle Ave. (Route 9) near New Castle.

Police said a masked man about 25-35 years old demanded money from the register, but the employee refused. The man then showed the gun and again demanded the cash. She refused again and chased him out with the knife.

No one was injured.

Police said the robber was white, 5-feet-10 to 5-feet-11 and 190-200 pounds. He was wearing a black leather jacket, light blue jeans, black shoes and a knit cap.
