LATER STORY: 31-year-old woman killed in 2nd crash on Mt. Joy Road
MILLSBORO, DELAWARE (1/13/2016) A 65-year-old man was killed Tuesday evening in the head-on collision of a car and SUV east of Milllsboro, the Delaware State Police said this morning.
The crash happened about 5:40 p.m. on Mt. Joy Road just north of Cordrey Road.
The man killed was identified as Lester L. Thompson, of Millsboro. He was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer southbound when an oncoming 2011 Honda Accord crossed into his path for unknown reasons.
After the head-on impact in the southbound lane, the Accord came to rest partially off the east side of the road, and the Blazer spun around and came to a stop in the middle of the road.
Thompson was taken by ambulance to Beebe Healthcare’s hospital in Lewes, where he was pronounced dead. Police said he wasn’t wearing a seat belt.
Ryan M. Leonardo, 42, of Millsboro, who was driving the northbound Accord, was taken by ambulance to Beebe and admitted with injuries police said were not life-threatening. Police said he was wearing a seat belt.
Troopers are still investigating the crash and no charges have been filed.
The road was closed in the area for about three hours as police investigated and the wreckage was cleared.
