Bear home wall 2BEAR, DELAWARE (12/15/2015) Police say a 23-year-old man was texting when his car went out of control and crashed into the wall of a home this afternoon in Bear.

The incident happened about 3:20 p.m., when the Pontiac Bonneville was southbound on Opus Drive and went through the intersection at Taylor Drive, said Cpl. Tom Jackson of New Castle County police.

The vehicle continued over a chain-link fence into the backyard of a home in the first block of Archer Circle, in the Woodland Trails neighborhood, entering the rear wall of the home about 6 feet.

The driver declined medical treatment at the scene. He was cited by police with inattentive driving and using a cellphone while driving. Police did not release his name.

No one was in the home at the time.

Christiana Fire Company responded to evaluate and stabilize the structure, which was later declared uninhabitable by county building inspectors.

The American Red Cross was assisting the homeowner.
