Record high temperatures set in Delaware

DELAWARE (12/15/2015) Record high temperatures were set or matched early today and Monday at New Castle Airport and Sussex County Airport, according to the National Weather Service.

At the airport  near New Castle, a high 0f 68 at 12:27 a.m. today broke the daily record of 67 set on Dec. 15, 1971.

On Monday, a high of 69 broke the old Dec. 14 record of 63 degrees set in 2001.

And at Sussex County Airport near Georgetown, a high of 70 degrees at 1:37 a.m. today equaled the record set on Dec. 15, 2008.

On Monday, a high of 75 broke the Sussex County record 67 degree mark set on Dec. 14, 1953 and matched in 2001.

The temperature at Dover Air Force Base reached 68 degrees early today and 73 on Monday. The weather service doesn’t compile record data for Dover.

Today’s weather is expected to be mostly sunny with an afternoon high around 61 degrees upstate and around 66 downstate.

More normal high temperatures are expected to return by the end of the week.
