Woman in critical condition after Alban Park apartment fire

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (11/15/2015) A woman was in critical condition after an apartment fire this morning in Alban Park south of Wilmington, authorities said.

The fire broke out about 5 a.m. in the 600 block of Homestead Road.

Smoke was pouring from the occupied building when Five Points Fire Company arrived, said Michael Chionchio, assistant state fire marshal.

A woman  believed to be about 30 years old was found on the second floor suffering from extreme smoke inhalation, said Cpl. Abigail Haas of New Castle County paramedics.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital.

Four adults were displaced by the fire and they are being assisted by the American Red Cross, Chionchio said.

Elsmere, Minquas, Belvedere and Cranston Heights fire companies and Delaware State Police also assisted at the scene.

Investigators from the Delaware state Fire Marshal’s Office are trying to determine how the fire started.

Chionchio said damage was estimated at $100,000.
