WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (11/16/2015) A plaque and bench on Rodney Square now honor the man stabbed to death while saving the life of a woman and her baby near a Wilmington bus stop.

Family and friends of Thomas L. Cottingham were on hand as well as city officials including Mayor Dennis P. Williams for the unveiling Saturday.

Cottingham was protecting Amadi Muhammad and her baby when he was stabbed multiple times, in the back and upper torso, the night of Sept. 14.

Muhamed said she didn’t know her attacker nor Cottingham, and police have said the men didn’t know each other.

Police have charged Calvin Hooker III, 25,  of Wilmington, with first-degree murder in the crime.
