Boy, 12, on bicycle struck by car in New Castle

NEW CASTLE, DELAWARE (8/31/2015) A 12-year-old boy on a bicycle was hospitalized with a broken leg after he was struck by a car in New Castle, city police said.

The boy, who lives in the Oakmont neighborhood, turned into the motorist’s path on Wilmington Road (Route 9) near Hewlett Avenue on Sunday, Senior Lt. Adam P. Brams said.

The boy was first taken to Christiana Hospital and was to be taken to Nemours/A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children for surgery.

The driver of the Honda Civic that struck the boy, a 28-year-old man from Collingswood, New Jersey, was not injured.

Brams said no charges were filed.
