Police identify man struck by tractor-trailer on I-95

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (9/24/2015) A man struck and critically injured when walking across Interstate 95 was identified this morning by Delaware State Police.

Mark Steward, 44, of Wilmington, was struck about 11:30 a.m. just south of Delaware Avenue (Route 52).

Police say Steward stepped into the path of a 2014 Franklink tractor-trailer in the right northbound lane and was thrown into the roadway.

He was treated at the scene by New Castle County paramedics and then taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital in Stanton.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Adrian L. Ponder, 49, of Broadwell, Illinois, stopped at the scene and was not injured, police said.

The left and center lanes of northbound I-95 were cloased about two hours as police investigated.
