LEWES, DELAWARE (9/4/2015) Two people were injured, one critically, when a motorcycle collided with a dump truck west of Lewes, Delaware State Police said today.

The accident happened about 2:25 p.m. Thursday on Dairy Farm Road about a half mile south of Lewes-Georgetown Highway (U.S. 9).

Police said Brian A. Taylor, 25, of Lewes, was driving a 2014 Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound on Dairy Farm Road when he struck the left rear of a 1993 International truck driven by Jonathan H. Hurd, 54, of Georgetown.

Hurd had just pulled out in front of the bike from a private access road leading to a corn field, police said.

Taylor and his passenger, Kristen N. Schaffer, 26, of Lewes, were ejected from the bike onto the roadway.

Taylor was taken by ambulance to Beebe Healthcare’s hospital in Lewes, where he was admitted with undetermined injuries.

Schaffer was flown by state police helicopter to Christiana Medical Center in Stanton, where she was admitted in critical condition, police said.

Hurd was not injured.

Neither Taylor nor Schaffer were wearing a helmet.

Police said their investigation is continuing and no charges have been filed.

Dairy Farm Road was closed about two hours as police investigated and the road was cleared.
