Fire at home north of Middletown called arson

Fire engineMIDDLETOWN, DELAWARE (9/1/2015) A fire that heavily damaged a home north of Middletown in July was arson, the Delaware state Fire Marshal’s Office said today.

The blaze was reported just before 1 a.m. July 19 in the first block of Haggis Road in the Estates of Saint Anne neighborhood.

Flames were shooting out of the two-story home when Volunteer Hose Company of Middletown firefighters arrived.

Damage was estimated at $500,000, said Michael G. Chionchio, assistant state fire marshal.

He asked anyone with information on the fire to call investigators at 302-323-5375.
