LONG NECK, DELAWARE (8/23/2015) The body of a man was recovered Saturday night after his SUV went into the water at the Massey’s Landing boat ramp and overturned, authorities report.

The launching ramp is located at the end of Long Neck Road and provides access to Massey Ditch and Rehoboth Bay.

Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was already in the area, on standby for a fireworks display at Pot Nets Bayside, and quickly responded when reports came in that a green Ford Explorer had driven off the ramp at 8:39 p.m.

Witnesses reported the occupant didn’t get out of the vehicle, which sank about 30-35 feet off the ramps in swift tidal currents.

The fire company says dive crews were called in from Millville, Millsboro and Selbyville fire companies and a side-scanning SONAR unit from Bethany Beach located the vehicle.

An Indian River fire company boat was used in the recovery effort as well as vessels from the Delaware marine police, the Coast Guard and TowBoatU.S. Fire police closed the ramp area while the recovery was underway.
