77-year-old man injured in hit-and-run

CAMDEN, DELAWARE (8/16/2015) A 77-year-old man was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle east of Camden this morning, Delaware State Police said.

The accident happened just before 7 a.m. on Walnut Shade Road.

The victim was walking on his property when an unknown eastbound vehicle left the road and struck him and his mailbox, police said.

The pedestrian was thrown into the middle of Walnut Shade Road and the vehicle fled.

A passerby notified police when he saw the man in the roadway.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital in Dover. Police said he was in stable condition with multiple traumatic injuries.

Troopers are analyzing evidence at the scene in an attempt to identify the vehicle that fled.
