Man in critical condition after ATV crash

DSP logoCAMDEN, DELAWARE (8/16/2015) A 21-year-old Millville man is in critical condition after an ATV he was driving crashed into a tree east of Camden, according to Delaware State Police.

A 13-year-old passenger was taken to a hospital.

The accident happened just after 4 p.m. Saturday at 587 S. Old Mill Road.

The driver, Dalton T. Weiss, was heading north through a yard when the all-terrain vehicle struck a small log, causing it to rise in the air on its rear tires, police said, and the passenger, who was riding in front of Weiss, jumped off.

The ATV continued north and Weiss stood up on its pegs and tried to regain control before it struck the tree and he was ejected, police said. The ATV flipped over on its left side.

Weiss was flown by state police helicopter to Christiana Hospital in Stanton.

Police said charges are pending for driving under the influence and endangering the welfare of a child.

The passenger, from Lewes, did not have any life-threatening injuries, police said, but was taken by ambulance to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital for evaluation.

South Old Mill and Rising Sun roads were closed about an hour as police investigated.
