Greyhound bus strikes, kills Millsboro man, 56, on U.S. 113

DSP logoFRANKFORD, DELAWARE (8/15/2015) Delaware State Police say a Greyhound bus struck and killed a pedestrian early today on U.S. 113 south of Frankford.

The victim was identified as Sylvester O. Bailey, 56, of Millsboro.

The accident happened about 3:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes of U.S. 113 (DuPont Boulevard) about a quarter mile north of Delaware Avenue.

Someone had called 911 reporting a man walking in the right lane, and police later said alcohol use on the part of Bailey is being considered as a factor in the fatal accident.

He was struck in the right lane by a 2001 Van Hool Coach bus driven by Lin Jin Wei, 47, of New York. There were 47 passengers aboard. No one on the bus was hurt.

Bailey suffered massive injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

A Selbyville police officer was behind the bus at the time, en route to look for the man reported on the roadway, when the accident happened. State police said he verified the bus was not speeding.

The northbound lanes of U.S. 113 were closed about three hours as police investigated.
