Suspect in Wilmington basement homicide arrested in New York

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (8/1/2015) A suspect in a basement homicide in Wilmington has been arrested in New York City, authorities announced Friday.

Taushia Mitchell, 18, of Wilmington, was being held on charges relating to the theft of the vehicle belonging to the homicide victim, 29-year-old James Rogers of Wilmington.

Rogers was slain July 23 in a home in the 500 block of W. Fourth St.

Mitchell was sought on a warrant charging him with first-degree murder and is expected to be extradited to Delaware next week.

The arrest was announced in a joint statement from Wilmington police and the Delaware Department of Justice.

The FBI and federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also were involved in the search for Mitchell, authorities said.
