Dover mom charged with whipping child with extension cord

DOVER, DELAWARE (8/1/2015) A 28-year-old woman was arrested for whipping her 6-year-old daughter with an extension cord, Dover police said Friday.

Nivia Brown of Dover was charged with second-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman said a family member of the victim reported the child’s injuries to the state Department of Services for Children, Youth and their Families.

Hoffman said Brown told officers she whipped the child for not listening to her.

She was arraigned and released on unsecured bond.
