NEW CASTLE, DELAWARE (6/8/2015) One man was set on fire and another assaulted during a home invasion early today, New Castle City police said.

The incident happened about 3 a.m. in the 100 block of N. Katrin Circle in the Boothurst community.

Two men and a woman were held at gunpoint by at least four assailants. The victims were bound at the wrist and ankles but one managed to partially free himself and call police, said Senior Lt. Adam Brahms.

The intruders ransacked the home, asking where the money was, Brams said, and fled with undisclosed items. He said police don’t think the home invasion was a random act.

A 45-year-old man suffered a head wound and was set on fire. He was treated at Christiana Hospital and later transferred to the burn center at Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland, Pa.

A 45-year-old man suffered a cut to the neck and was treated at Christiana and released. A 57-year-old woman in the home was not injured.

New Castle County police officers spotted the suspects’ vehicle and pursued itĀ over the Delaware Memorial Bridge, but called off the chase after losing sight of it, Brams said.
