BEAR, DELAWARE (5/18/2015) Fire heavily damaged car wash and detailing businesses on U.S. 40 in Bear early today, according to reports from the scene.
The fire in a building at 1921 Pulaski Highway (U.S. 40) was reported at 3:43 a.m.
The building houses American Car Wash and Shorty’s Detailing and Window Tinting.
The fire went through the roof of the central part of the building, which housed the detailing business.
After Christiana firefighters arrived a second alarm was sounded, and additional volunteers responded including from Belvedere, Delaware City, Port Penn and Wilmington Manor.
Westbound U.S. 40 remained closed at Scotland Drive at 6:30 a.m. but was reopened shortly after.
No injuries were reported, said Michael Chionchio, assistant state fire marshal.
He said investigators are still trying to determine how the fire started.
Damage was estimated at $25,000, Chionchio.
The businesses were closed at the time.
