Man flown to hospital after car rolls in Route 1 crash

DSP logoFREDERICA, DELAWARE (5/17/2015) A 58-year-old man was flown to a hospital this morning after his car crashed and rolled over numerous times on Route 1 near Frederica’s southern border, Delaware State Police said.

The accident happened about 6:50 A.M. just north of the southern intersection with Frederica Road.

The driver, from York, Pennsylvania, was northbound on Route 1 (Bay Road) in a 1994 Mercedes-Benz when it struck a yield sign in the median and went into the southbound lanes, where it overturned before coming to rest on its roof in the roadway, police said.

The man, the only person in the car, was taken to Christiana Hospital by Delaware State Police helicopter. Police said he was admitted in stable condition.

Police said an acute medical condition may have contributed to the crash but police are still investigating.

Traffic was affected about two hours as the crash was investigated and the wreckage cleared.
