DSP logoLEWES, DELAWARE (5/4/2015) A 48-year-old motorcyclist was killed this evening in a collision with a pickup truck south of Lewes, Delaware State Police said.

The accident happened about 6:30 p.m. on John J. Williams Highway (Route 24) at Mulberry Knoll Road. It was the second motorcycle fatal in the state in two days.

The name of the latest victim, from Pocopson, Pennsylvania, was withheld by police pending notification of next-of-kin.

His motorcycle was westbound on Route 24 when it struck the left side of a southbound 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup that failed to remain stopped at the stop sign on Mulberry Knoll Road, police said. The motorcyclist was ejected onto the roadway, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said he wasn’t wearing a helmet.

The driver of the pickup, Brian J. Donohue, 49, of Ocean View, was wearing a seat belt and wasn’t injured, police said.

Route 24 was closed about two hours as police investigated and the wreckage was cleared.

Intermittent lane closures are expected today as troopers return for further investigation.
