Kayaker drowns after capsizing in Brandywine

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (9/19/2018) A kayaker drowned after capsizing in the Brandywine in Wilmington on Tuesday, city police said.

Officers arrived near the North Market Street Bridge about 12:40 p.m. and saw the victim being carried down the river by the swift current.

A police officer and a paramedic pulled the victim from the creek and began CPR, police said.

The victim was taken to Wilmington Hospital and later pronounced dead.

Police have not released the identity of the victim.
