Man, 80, critically injured in Scottfield house fire

BROOKSIDE, DELAWARE (9/6/2018) An 80-year-old man was critically injured in a house fire today in the Scottfield development, authorities said.

The blaze was reported shortly after 2 p.m. in the 900 block of Linfield Road.

Flames had engulfed the front of the home by the time firefighters from Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company arrived, said Michael Chionchio, assistant state fire marshal.

He said the 80-year-old man was rescued by firefighters.

Paramedics treated him for smoke inhalation and burns. He was first taken to Christiana Hospital in Stanton, then transferred to Crozer Chester Medical Center in Upland, Pennsylvania.

Investigators are still trying to determine how the fire started, Chionchio said.

No other injuries were reported. The other resident of the house was not home when the fire was discovered.

Damage was estimated at $150,000.
