Home burns on Chestnut Avenue east of Newark. (Photo: Delaware Free News)NEWARK, DELAWARE (4/13/2018) A 66-year-old man was in critical condition after being burned in a house fire east of Newark on Thursday night, authorities said.

The fire happened about 8 p.m. in the first block of Chestnut Ave., in the Roseville Park neighborhood.

Smoke was pouring from the home when firefighters from Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company arrived, said Michael G. Chionchio, assistant state fire marshal.

The 66-year-old man, also suffering smoke inhalation, was taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital in Stanton.

No other injuries were reported.

Chionchio said investigators from the Delaware state Fire Marshal’s Office are still trying to determine how the fire started.
