DEWEY BEACH, DELAWARE (3/13/2018) Fire destroyed two beachfront homes in the Silver Lake area at the north end of Dewey Beach early today, and three others were damaged.
Rehoboth Beach firefighters were called to 3 Sand Dunes Drive, a small lane near the end of East Silver Lake Drive, about 3:10 a.m..
A second alarm called out additional units from Lewes, Indian River and other fire companies as flames spread to another home. Heat damaged three other homes.
Firefighters were on the scene for more than seven hours. Gusty winds and cold weather hampered their efforts battling the blaze.
While the homes on Sand Dunes Drive are within Dewey Beach town limits, the only road access is through Rehoboth Beach and a small unincorporated area of Sussex County between the two municipalities.
