28-year-old man wounded in Wilmington shooting

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (1/2/2018) A 28-year-old man was wounded and several vehicles struck by bullets in a shooting in Wilmington early today, city police said.

Police responding to a report of shots fired about 2 a.m. found spent shell casings in the 2700 block of W. Fifth St. and two unoccupied parked vehicles struck.

Witnesses reported a grey Mercury fled the scene, and officers found a car matching the description a short time later in the parking lot of 1022 Delaware Ave., at the Dash In store. The vehicle had a flat tire and apparent bullet strikes.

The 28-year-old man driving the car was suffering from a single gunshot wound to his right shoulder. The front passenger wasn’t hurt, police said.

The victim was treated at St. Francis Hospital and released.

Police said they also had a Shot Spotter notification of gunfire just before midnight Monday at West Third and Franklin streets.
