Wilmington shooting victim, 24, in critical condition

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (12/17/2017) Another shooting was reported in Wilmington this morning and the victim, a 24-year-old man, was in critical condition, city police said.

The latest victim was found about 7:15 a.m. along Northeast Boulevard just south of the Vandever Avenue intersection.

The victim suffered a single gunshot wound to the back and was taken to Christiana Hospital in Stanton.

Police initially reported a shooting happened at 5:57 a.m. in the 1700 block of Thatcher St., about a block from where the 24-year-old man was later found. But later police said a Shot Spotter notification sent officers to the 900 block of E. 17th St. at that time.

The victim told officers he was walking on East 17th Street when he heard gunshots and began to run. He then realized he had been shot and continued to run until he collapsed on Northeast Boulevard.

This morning’s shooting come in the wake of a fatal shooting on Saturday night in the 800 block of Vandever Ave. The victim was a 20-year-old Wilmington man.
