ELLENDALE, DELAWARE (11/17/2017) A 53-year-old woman was struck and killed while walking along South Old State Road in Ellendale on Thursday night, the Delaware State Police said.
The pedestrian crash was reported at 10:48 p.m. north of Robbins Road.
Police said the woman, later identified as Jacqueline Jenkins, was walking along the east edge of the road when she was struck by the right side mirror and possibly a headlight from an unknown vehicle. She was thrown onto the grass along the side of the road.
The vehicle fled to the north.
Police said Jenkins was wearing dark clothing and wasn’t carrying a light.
She was taken by ambulance to Milford Memorial Hospital, where she died a short time later.
Police are withholding her name pending notification of next of kin.
Old State Road was closed about three hours as police investigated.
