BOYDS CORNER, DELAWARE (10/2/2017) A crash involving a dump truck and a tractor-trailer closed southbound U.S. 13 this afternoon, forcing traffic onto Route 1 and causing major mayhem for commuters.

The crash happened about 2 p.m. at the Hyetts Corner Road intersection and injured the 67-year-old driver of the dump truck.

The man was initially reported as unconscious for several minutes, but was alert when New Castle County paramedics arrived.

He was evaluated for shoulder and neck pain and a possible head injury, said Cpl. David J. McKinney Jr. of New Castle County paramedics. A Port Penn Fire Company ambulance took the man to Christiana Hospital in Stanton. He was in stable condition.

Odessa Fire Company and Volunteer Hose Company of Middletown also responded.

DelDOT urged motorists to take Route 1 to avoid delays on U.S. 13 and waived tolls for southbound motorists exiting at Pole Bridge Road.
