Police: Intruder shot to death in home invasion

COVERDALE CROSSROADS, DELAWARE (9/25/2017) An intruder was shot to death by a resident during a home invasion in the Coverdale Crossroads area east of Bridgeville, the Delaware State Police said this morning.

The incident in the 11000 block of Iris Field Lane was reported at 11:54 p.m. Sunday.

Troopers responding to a 911 call found the man near the kitchen with a gunshot would to the upper torso. He was pronounced dead by Sussex County paramedics.

His name was not released by police pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.

Police said a man living in the home was alone when two men broke in and a struggle ensued with one of the intruders. A single round was fired. The resident was not injured.

The second intruder fled. He was wearing dark clothing and a mask.
