SMYRNA, DELAWARE (9/20/2017) A 45-year-old woman killed Tuesday morning when her car collided with a school bus on U.S. 13 north of Smyrna has been identified by Delaware State Police.

The crash was reported at 6:06 a.m. at the intersection with Black Diamond Road.

Kelly A Brandenburg was driving a 2008 Kia Spectra southbound on U.S. 13 (DuPont Parkway) in the left lane when the right side of the car collided with the left side of an eastbound 2013 Blue Bird school bus. Police said the bus was making a right turn from Black Diamond Road to go south on the highway when it pulled out into the path of the Kia.

Both vehicles came to rest in the grass median.

Bradenburg was treated at the scene by New Castle County paramedics, then flown by state police helicopter to Christiana Hospital in Stanton, where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the bus, Michael S. Henry, 60, of Smyrna, was not injured. Police said he was the only one aboard the bus owned by McCain Bus Service.

Police said Henry was wearing a seat belt but Bradenburg was not.

The crash is still under investigation and no charges have been filed.
