2 injured in Airport Speedway crashes; 1 in critical condition

NEW CASTLE, DELAWARE (5/7/2017) Two people were injured in crashes at the Airport Speedway near New Castle on Friday night, authorities said this morning.

The first incident happened about 9:10 p.m. at the go-kart track on Hollow Road North off Speedway Drive and Commons Boulevard.

A 50-year-old pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle, said Paramedic First Class Yvonne T. Russell. He was treated by New Castle County paramedics and speedway emergency crews for rib injuries, then taken by Wilmington Fire Company ambulance to Christiana Hospital in Stanton. He was in stable condition, Russell said.

About 10:50 p.m., a 33-year-old man was injured in a go-kart rollover, Russell said. He was treated by speedway emergency crews and paramedics for head and leg injuries, then taken by Wilmington Fire Company ambulance to Christiana Hospital in Stanton. He was in critical condition.

Delaware River and Bay Authority police are investigating both incidents, Russell said.
