GLASGOW, DELAWARE (3/24/2017) A 31-year-old Bear man was killed early today when his pickup truck crashed and overturned in Glasgow, the Delaware State Police said.

The crash af a 1999 Chevrolet 2500 happened about 12:17 a.m. on Summit Bridge Road (Route 896/U.S. 301) just north of Red Lion Road (Route 71).

The man killed was identified as Donald W. Shaw III.

“For an unknown reason, the Chevrolet drifted off of the right hand side of the roadway and partially onto a grass embankment. Shaw attempted to re-enter the roadway by steering the car to the left, however, he over-corrected which caused the vehicle to rotate clockwise and then overturn. As the Chevrolet was overturning, it struck a road sign and then came to rest in the right hand northbound lane of Route 896 on its passenger side,” Master Cpl. Jeffrey R. Hale said.

Shaw wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected and pinned under the truck, Hale said.

No one else was in the vehicle.

Summit Bridge Road was closed about 3.5 hours as police investigated and the wreckage was cleared.
