Snow predictions: 0 to 16 inches

“Most likely” storm totals predicted by National Weather Service.

UPDATED STORY: Latest Delaware snow predictions: 0 to 20 inches

DELAWARE (3/11/2017) Weather forecasters have a wide range of predictions for a coastal storm due Monday night and Tuesday, with the potential for up to 16 inches of snow in northern Delaware.

But it could be as little as an inch upstate with none downstate, according to the National Weather Service’s latest briefing.

The service’s “most likely” outlook calls for 8 to 12 inches in northern New Castle County, tapering down to 2-3 inches in Kent County and an inch or less in Sussex County.

The storm also is expected to bring winds gusting to 40-50 mph in coastal areas, as well as minor to moderate coastal flooding.

According to a weather service statement, “there remains uncertainty in exact totals as a sharp gradient will exist between the heaviest snowfall and locations where very little snow may occur. Changes to the forecast track of the storm can result in substantial changes in the total accumulations.”
